Officer Roles

The Academy of Management Officers takes their roles and responsibilities seriously and performs these tasks with the greatest integrity and thought to the membership of the Academy. Below is a brief summary of each role which comprises the Executive Committee of the Board of Governors.

Five officers serve on the Board of Governors (BOG): the president, president-elect, vice president and program chair, vice president elect and program chair elect, and past president. Each office has a detailed job description.


President
Responsible for the conduct of the Academy's activities in a manner that ensures accomplishment of the Academy's objectives, subject to the Bylaws, Articles of Incorporation, Statement of Strategic Direction and concurrence of the Board on policy matters.
• Chairs Board meetings
• Chairs the Executive Committee
• Is an ex officio member of all standing committees
• Is a member of the Nominating Committee and understudy to its chair
• Responsible for strategic planning and oversight of all committees
• Supervises and is EC liaison to the Academy historian
• Makes formal appointments necessary within his/her term of office

President Elect
Acts for the president if the president is absent or disabled and performs duties as assigned. Coordinates divisions and interest groups.
• Succeeds the current president at the termination of the president's year in office
• Attends all Board meetings
• Is a member of the Executive Committee
• Serves as a member of the Nominating Committee
• Supervises and acts as the Executive Committee liaison to the Division and Interest Group Relations Committee
• Supervises and acts as the Executive Committee liaison to the awards committees
• Supervises and acts as the Executive Committee liaison to the Journals Committee, participating in editor search committees that fall within his or her term.

Vice President and Program Chair
Serves as the program chair for the annual meeting and performs such duties as may be assigned by the president or president-elect
• Succeeds the current president-elect at the termination of the president-elect's year in office
• Attends all Board meetings
• Is a member of the Executive Committee
• Is a member of the Nominating Committee
• Establishes conference theme, manages the call for submissions, prepares the educational content of the meeting, and produces the program.

Vice President Elect and Program Chair Elect
Serves as the Professional Development Workshop(PDW) chair for the annual meeting and assumes the role of program chair for the next annual meeting. Performs such duties as may be assigned by the president or president-elect.
• Succeeds the current vice president at the termination of the vice president's year in office
• Attends all Board meetings
• Is a member of the Executive Committee
• Is a member of the Nominating Committee
• Is responsible for the Professional Development Workshop program for the annual meeting

Past President
At the discretion of the president, the past president serves as a liaison to affiliated and associated organizations and manages outreach activities. Fulfills Board and Academy responsibilities as requested by the president.
• Attends all Board meetings
• Serves as chair of the Nominating Committee
• Is a member of the Executive/Financial Affairs Committee
• Representative to the International Federation of Scholarly Associations of Management (IFSAM)
• Coordinates external relations, at the discretion of the president

Executive Director and Secretary-Treasurer
Serves as the paid staff executive. Reports to the president.
• Is an ex officio officer of the Board and a member of the Executive Committee
• Carries out Board and Executive Committee support/development
• Is the chief financial officer and manager of investments, budget, fund collection, and all financial issues
• Directs the Academy office, business matters, and association personnel
• Manages legal affairs
• Manages special projects and programs and strategies to improve member service
• Is the contract officer
• Conducts strategic planning
