Top 3 Things To Do Now

Flights Hotels
  1. Register for the meeting and book your housing & travel! More than 10,000 members from around the world will descend on Chicago, and our hotel room blocks go quickly so book now through the AOM Housing Bureau to get the best deals and availability. (You are not required to stay in an AOM hotel but they are the most convenient for quick access to your sessions.)
  1. To maximize your time, be sure to stay in or near the hotel where your Division sessions are being held. You'll find a link on our Hotel Accommodations website page that shows where each Division, Interest Group, and Committee are holding their sessions to make it easier to choose!
  1. Read your division newsletters and emails, they're full of 'must know' meeting information! Are you a Student member? Your division is most likely offering student consortium Professional Development Workshops (PDW's) that are invaluable and geared directly to you! Read your emails for details and sign up as soon as you can, they fill up first!

It's May!

Plan, Plan, and Plan Your Agenda Before You Leave!

3guyshovering
  1. Identify your goals first, then when the Online Program goes live in May you'll be able to use it to help you maximize your time by browsing and creating your customized, printable agenda BEFORE YOU LEAVE. There are 1,900+ sessions to pick from so choices can be difficult. The key is to prioritize and have a Plan B (and C). Eliminate over scheduling by focusing on your primary division(s) first.  You'll receive an e-mail announcement when the online program becomes available, so stay tuned!
  1. All meeting registrants are welcome to attend any session and to move between sessions.  A name badge is required for admission to all sessions and events.  There are some "select" workshops that require a separate registration due to space limitations or pre-work assignments, so be sure to read ALL session details in the Online Program very carefully to determine if it is one of these "select" workshops. If no pre-registration is indicated you you are welcome to attend without any additional sign up. Doctoral and faculty consortiums typically require separate registration and fill up quickly, so SIGN UP EARLY!
  1. STUDENT?  Join the New Doctoral Student Consortium (NDSC) Community on Connect@AOM and learn about their full day workshop! -- And Divisions begin advertising their student consortiums in their emails before the online program goes live so, again, read your division emails carefully so you're prepared!
  1. Don't miss out on free food and getting to meet others from your division or interest group! Simply search the Online Program specifically for your division's socials and welcome events! These are geared to you and that's where you'll meet like-minded colleagues to begin building your network!
  1.  Presenting? Bring your laptop!  Also helpful: review the Presenter Guideline link found on the homepage of the Online Program.
  1. Job Seeker? Sign up for a Placement account and schedule an onsite interview with prospective employers.  It's important to schedule ahead of time as they are not able to accommodate walk-in requests.
  1. Bring lots of business cards to share!
  1. Make sure to schedule some downtime in your agenda. You never know who you'll meet or when you'll want a break, and Chicago is a great city to see. It will be the perfect balance to your otherwise insanely busy schedule!

Top 5 Things To Throw In Your Suitcase!

packing
  1. Leave the tuxedo at home. Business casual attire is both acceptable and preferred. Be comfortable!
  1. Bring a good pair of walking shoes. With sessions across different properties, you'll want to be sure you're as comfortable as possible.
  1. Even with the warm outside temps in August, a jacket or sweater is helpful. As with any public space, air conditioning and climate control can run amok in session rooms, so an extra layer can keep even a temporary chill at bay.
  1. Allow extra space in your luggage for take-home materials and souvenirs, particularly any reference books and giveaways you pick up in the Exhibit Hall!
  1. Grab-and-go snacks, mints, and a water bottle carried daily in your conference tote bag can be life savers when all that scholarly work leaves you famished and parched because you over scheduled yourself with so much to attend and so little time to eat!
