"Transatlantic dialogue: developing international perspectives - I joined the Academy of Management in 1995, and went to the conference in Vancouver-the first year it was held outside the USA. Perhaps that was an omen! I was mid-career by then and wanted to develop more understanding of others' perspectives globally. Being a social scientist by background, my researches have predominantly used qualitative methodologies. So my work was slightly counter-cultural to US traditions, but I found an open minded and supportive base in the Health Care Management Division. I have always enjoyed the stimulation of the Academy.
I have tried to foster internationalization over the years, became a member of ITC, and Chaired the Carolyn Dexter Award. I continue to find stimulation and networking at AOM with my latest challenge - helping to form CASS, the Community of Academy's Senior Scholars. For me, the Academy offers a global, less European perspective."
