Organizational Communication & Information Systems (OCIS)

Proposals are invited for Professional Development Workshops (PDWs) for the Academy of Management Meeting to be held in Chicago, IL, U.S.A, August 10-14, 2018. PDW sessions are an opportunity to be innovative, discuss unresolved questions, learn (or teach) best practices in teaching and research, debate future directions for our field and organize novel activities that bring the expertise and experience of OCIS members to bear on the challenges that we all face in our daily professional lives.

PDW sessions (to be held on Friday and Saturday August 10-11, 2018) might include lectures, workshops, tutorials, invited speakers, town hall meetings, debates, tours and any other activity that will help members develop their professional skills. We welcome proposals for activities that will challenge and strengthen the members of the OCIS community. Proposals will be evaluated on their ability to draw an audience (from OCIS and across the Academy), innovativeness and potential impact on the professional success of participants. While we are open to any proposal that addresses issues of interest to OCIS, we particularly encourage proposals that address the conference theme: Improving Lives.

If you are interested in proposing a PDW session or helping with the OCIS Doctoral or Junior Faculty Consortia, you are invited to contact Jennifer Gibbs, the OCIS PDW chair (ocis@comm.ucsb.edu), before December 15, 2017 so we can work with you to develop the idea. All proposals for PDW activities must be submitted through the AOM submission system website by Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at 5pm ET (NY Time).

Please note the following clarifications regarding the duration of proposed PDWs:

A. Submitters also have the ability to request a minimum duration of 1.5 hours if they feel it would better serve the workshop, session flow, and attendee engagement. The 1.5 hour duration request must be documented in the uploaded proposal document at the time of submission. NOTE: When submitting the PDW in the online submission system, it will still need to be submitted with a minimum duration of 2 hours. If the proposal is accepted, the PDW Chair will reduce the duration to 1.5 hours on the submitter’s behalf.

 

B. Each PDW Chair has the ability to decrease the duration of any submitted Professional Development Workshop if he/she feels it would better serve the division’s member experience. The minimum amount of time a PDW can be reduced to is 1.5 hours.
