The SIM Division seeks submissions for the scholarly program sessions (9-13 August 2024) at the 84th Annual Meeting of the Academy of Management (AOM 2024) Meeting in Chicago (IL, USA). The Annual Meeting will be in-person on-site, with all sessions hosted in Chicago, IL, USA. Paper and symposium proposals may choose to incorporate this year’s conference theme: Innovating for the Future: Policy, Purpose, and Organizations. 2024 AOM Program Chair, Tammy Madsen, described the challenges and opportunities associated with this theme as follows:
“Innovating for the Future invites members to examine the interplay of innovation, policy, and purpose as a lens for rethinking conventional ways of leading, managing, and organizing. The future state of the organization is of perennial concern to management scholars and managers themselves. Political unrest, economic volatility, inequality, rapid technological change, environmental erosion, health crises, and pronounced societal issues across the globe continue to challenge traditional approaches to governing the organization. What are the implications for the organization of the future?”
The AOM 2024 theme is a generative prompt for the SIM community to consider the relevance of our scholarship to the need for innovation and transformation in leadership, management, and organizations. Submitters are encouraged to reflect on the conceptual and practical links their work offers to this year’s theme. We also welcome non-thematic proposals about topics within the SIM domain, including but not limited to: ethical decision-making, moral development, corporate social responsibility, social performance, stakeholder engagement and relations, sustainable development, environmental management, base-of-the-pyramid, social entrepreneurship, business and human rights, public policy, governance, and corporate political strategy. For more information about the content within our research domain, please visit the SIM website.
The SIM Division recognizes outstanding scholarship through numerous awards, including best paper, best student paper, best ethics paper, best dissertation, and best book. Award winners are announced at the SIM business meeting.
The Submission Center opens in early December 2023 and the submission deadline is Tuesday, 9 January 2024 at 17:00 ET (GMT-5/UTC-5). Please try to submit earlier if possible. Professional development workshops (PDWs) will take place Friday, 9 August through Sunday, 11 August 2024. Scholarly sessions (papers and symposia) will take place Sunday, 11 August through Tuesday, 13 August 2024.
Please pay close attention to submission guidelines. AOM Program Chairs have agreed to apply them rigorously and reject non-conforming papers. All submissions must be made online.
Please sign up to review! The norm in the collegial SIM community is that if you submit a paper, symposium, or PDW to the SIM Division, then you also help to review for SIM. The success of the SIM program relies upon your active participation in the review process. Thoughtful and timely reviews are critical for helping to develop the SIM annual program. Reviewer assignments are based on keywords you indicate as areas of expertise. New to reviewing for SIM? 2024 is the year to start! PhD students are welcome. The reviewer sign-up system is open and can be accessed via the Reviewer Center.
If you have any questions that cannot be clarified through the website, please contact Erica Steckler, 2024 SIM Division Program Chair.
