In this session, we will discuss existing barriers to publication based on informal conversations with 15 scholars from Latin America & the Caribbean, Africa, and Asia.

Most articles appearing in top management journals come from scholars based in developed and especially Western schools of business and management Therefore, authors from the “periphery” outside schools especially in the Western world are severely underrepresented. The lack of publication by periphery-based scholars is a problem because – absent a diverse set of voices – our theories potentially lack the requisite variety needed to adequately make sense of the complexity of organizational life. In this session, we will discuss existing barriers to publication based on informal conversations with 15 scholars from Latin America & the Caribbean, Africa, and Asia, and talk about some potential initiatives and strategies to help periphery-based scholars publish theory papers with a great potential to impact and advance the management field.
