This will be my 21st Academy of Management Annual Meeting… This year, because it will be online, it will a lot more flexible. You'll have a lot more ability to join. The thing that I find the most interesting and the most important about the Academy meetings every year is my chance to learn new things, see who's writing on different topics, get exposed to different ideas, go to events that are hosted by divisions I don't even belong to because I'm going to get new and exciting ideas from those divisions. There are so many nooks and crannies of ideas in the Academy that are worth exploring. And the fact that it's virtual means that we can explore many more things than we might not be able to explore if we were physically there running from hotel to hotel.

In Memoriam: AOM Honors Thomas (Tom) W. Lee, AOM’s 63rd President

The Academy of Management mourns the loss of Tom Lee, a humble scholar and leader who made a lasting impact on the discipline of management.

Tom held many roles within AOM: 63rd President of the Academy from 2007-2008; Editor of Academy of Management Journal; and Fellow of the Academy of Management. Additionally, he was the recipient of numerous awards from AOM, including:

  • 2001 Outstanding Organizational Behavior Publication Award from the OB Division
  • 2013 Scholarly Achievement Award from the HR Division
  • 2015 Herbert Heneman Jr. Award for Career Achievement from the HR Division
  • 2016 Career Achievement Award for Distinguished Service

“Tom has excelled in his service to the Academy and to the community at large,” wrote one member of the award committee. “Besides his numerous commitments to task forces and committees and to editing journals, what shines through is the true community ethos of Tom. He has been exceptional in mentoring the next generation and staying in touch with colleagues. There could not be a more deserving recipient.”

For a tribute from current AOM President, Quinetta Roberson, more on Tom's background and achievements, and to view other tributes dedicated to his memory via Connect@AOM, please .
