Every year, the Academy of Management recognizes outstanding individuals, who have made significant contributions to the field of management through their service, research, innovative teaching methods, breakthrough developments, and more over the course of their career.

 

Have you noticed the leadership of a colleague or peer who fits the above description? AOM invites you to share your recognition for these distinguished individuals and their accomplishments with a 2023 Career Achievement Award (CAA) nomination.

 

AOM members are welcome to submit their nominations to the Career Achievement Awards Committee, who read each submission with careful consideration. Award winners have come from various backgrounds and from an array of experience around the world, each with their own unique contribution to the field of management.

The recipients of the 2023 Career Achievement Awards will be announced during the Annual Meeting in Boston. The nomination deadline has been extended to 15 May 2023. To nominate an outstanding individual for one of these distinguished awards, and submit your nomination via email to the Career Achievement Awards Committee Chair, at .

 

 

Distinguished Educator Award

Recent winners have included Arthur (Art) Brief (2021) University of Utah, for his attention to, mentorship, and intellectual development of a great number of graduate students and junior faculty who have become leading figures in their own fields; and John Hollenbeck (2022) of the University of Michigan, for his immersive lessons with real-world impact.

 

Distinguished Service Award

Recent winners have included Stella Nkomo (2018), University of Pretoria, for her efforts to improve the quality of university education and management research in Africa; the late Andrew (Andy) Van de Ven (2020), for his part in founding Academy of Management Discoveries, among countless other endeavors; Anita McGahan (2021), University of Toronto, for her far-reaching service contributions.

 

Distinguished Scholar-Practitioner Award

Recent winners have included Herminia Ibarra (2018), London Business School, for the wide appeal of her books among practitioners, her support to junior colleagues, and championing gender diversity; and Joanne C. Preston (2021), for her 35+ years of experience in global leadership, strategic change, and organizational change.

 

Distinguished Scholarly Contributions to Management Award

Recent winners have included Fred Luthans (2021), University of Nebraska, for his work to better understand the importance of a valid, evidence-based positive approach to organizational behavior; and Ann Langley (2022), HEC Montreal, for her research has focused on analyzing process data to devise theoretical contributions to the field of management.

are designed to provide authors with guidance and expertise in the development of their manuscript for potential submission to an Academy journal. Join us for these upcoming Paper Development Workshops:

5 June

The goal of the workshop is to develop ideas and working manuscripts with the aim of later submission for review at AMJ. Consistent with the mission of AMJ, submissions on all management-relevant topics, at all levels of analysis, and using all empirical methods are invited for the workshop.

Submission deadline: 8 May

22 June

This workshop is geared toward all scholars (PhD students, junior and senior scholars) who are interested in publishing in AMR and the Annals. Editors of both journals have noticed that some submissions come to their journals that would better fit with the other journal. In this workshop, we aim to work with potential authors to determine the best fit for their ideas, and then help them develop well-crafted ideas and proposals suitable for eventual submission to AMR and the Annals.

The goal of the workshop is to develop ideas and working manuscripts with the aim of later submission for review at Academy of Management Journal. Consistent with the mission of AMJ, submissions on all management-relevant topics, at all levels of analysis, and using all empirical methods are invited for the workshop. This workshop is hosted by IPADE Business School.

This workshop has two main parts. Part 1 comprises a general introduction to AMLE, touching on its overlaps with other key journals in the field. The main focus is on writing manuscripts that advance our theoretical understanding about AMLE phenomena for the research article and essay sections of the journal. Part 2 is focused on supporting and advising researchers, with current work-in-progress, how to develop and refine their papers with submission to AMLE in mind. This workshop is hosted by University of Alberta.
