During the Closing Remarks session held at the 81st Annual Meeting of the Academy, Quinetta Roberson passed the gavel to Herman Aguinis, officially welcoming him as the 77th President of the Academy of Management: “I am so excited to watch, experience, and support Herman as he leads us through the next year and to bestow him with this symbolic transfer of the presidency.” —Quinetta Roberson
Herman Aguinis is currently the Avram Tucker Distinguished Scholar at the George Washington University School of Business. Previously, he held the John F. Mee Chair in Management in the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University and has been a visiting scholar at universities in Australia, China, France, Spain, Singapore, South Africa, Malaysia, Puerto Rico, and Argentina. His multi-disciplinary, multi-method, and multi-level research addresses the acquisition, development, and deployment of human capital in organizations and organizational research methods. He has published over 150 journal articles and eight books, and his research has been featured in Forbes, The Economist, Bloomberg Businessweek, USA Today, among others.
An AOM member for almost thirty years, his accolades within AOM include induction as a Fellow of the Academy of Management, receiving the AOM Practice Theme Committee Scholar Practice Impact Award, the Research Methods Division Distinguished Career Award, the Entrepreneurship Division IDEA Thought Leader Award, as well as receiving Best Article awards from five AOM journals. In addition, Herman’s past service includes President of the Iberoamerican Academy of Management, Task Force Member for the 2020 effort to redesign the AOM Annual Meeting, and Chair of the Research Methods Division.
Also during the Annual Meeting’s All-Academy Closing Remarks session, Herman introduced a set of goals that will help enable the Board of Governors to continue navigating our changing environment while charting the Academy’s future. He cited plans for working with leaders of the Division and Interest Groups, Editors, AOM staff, and all Academy members to continue to strengthen AOM by:
• Reimagining membership and the value of membership
• Fueling Division and Interest Group innovation and support
• Reinventing meetings for hybrid, in-person & virtual modalities
• Propelling technology for the 21st Century
• Solidifying operational sustainability
“As I begin my role as President of the Academy of Management, we will continue to spend quite a bit of time and energy thinking about how we can continue to build a better future together. WE is key. This is not just the Academy leadership. This is not just the Academy staff. It is you, and you, and you, all of you—all of us 9,600+ participants at the conference and 19,000+ Academy members from 114 different countries. All of us are contributing right now, and I am confident will continue to do so.”
