AOM 2022 DIG Session Highlights

Each year, the Academy of Management's 26 Divisions and Interest Groups feature Professional Development Workshops (PDWs), along with Paper and Symposium (scholarly) sessions at the Annual Meeting.

View highlights of each DIG's scholarly sessions in the virtual Annual Meeting program.

Careers

Professor Stephen R. Barley is the 2022 recipient of the Hughes Award. This is the Careers Division’s premier award, recognizing distinguished scholars who have made significant contributions to the field by linking careers theory with other areas of organizational inquiry.

Conflict Management

This PDW is open to all Academy members—including junior & senior faculty and PhD students— who would like to learn how to successfully negotiate academic job compensation packages.

Entrepreneurship

In 2022, we celebrate the 25th anniversary of Venkatraman’s (1997) landmark work. This PDW will honor this seminal research, discuss its place in the field's development, show its contributions over time, and discuss its potential applications in future research.

Human Resources

In this session, Patrick Wright will moderate a panel discussion featuring Marcia Avedon and Dave Ulrich on fostering stronger practical connections in our HR research and teaching.

International Management

This session features Klaus Meyer, and Rosalie Tung leading an informal conversation about the evolution of the IM/IB field and the challenges and opportunities in the field going forward.

Management History

This panel symposium seeks to encourage research about diverse and critical issues in Management History from an Africana perspective. Black Business and Management History is underrepresented in the literature, and there is a growing push to decolonize the business curriculum and explore insights on how we can reimagine capitalism to create a better world together.

Organizational Behavior

Recognizing the pervasive influence of social class in organizations, we organize this Spotlight Plenary to take stock of the state of the science and practice in social class in organizational behavior, and highlight important future questions for scholars and practitioners to address.

Organizational and Management Theory

Professor Barbara Gray is the 2022 OMT Distinguished Scholar, an award which recognizes a scholar whose contributions have been central to the intellectual development of the field of organization studies. Professor Grey is a role model for scholars who strives for outstanding intellectual contributions that are highly impactful and meaningful for broader society. She has inspired and touched many OMT scholars on her path with her sharpness, warmth, and intellectual engagement in organizations and management.

Organizations and the Natural Environment

This PDW is designed to expose management scholars from the ONE division and other AOM divisions (IM, ODC, OMT, PNP, SIM, and STR) to the opportunities for research examining how business respond to increased natural adversity conditions and disasters generated by climate change.

Research Methods

Please join the RM division to recognize this year’s award winners, including the Sage Publications/RMD/Lawrence R. James Early Career Award and the Sage Publications/RMD Distinguished Career Award. The winner of the Sage Publications/RMD Distinguished Career Award will give a speech.

Strategic Management

Led by by STR Division Chair Heather Berry, this session features panelists Marvin B Lieberman (UCLA), Bruce Kogut (Columbia University), Constance E. Helfat (Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth) and Phil Leslie from Amazon. The distinguished panelists will share their views on value creation, value capture, relevant stakeholders when considering value creation and value capture, how firms shape their business environment, and whether/how firms create a better world through their value creation.

Technology and Innovation Management

The 2022 TIM Distinguished Scholar is Mary Tripsas, Professor of Technology Management at the University of California Santa Barbara. Professor Tripsas is being recognized for her pioneering work investigating how organizations can best adapt to disruptive technologies.
