Sherry Thatcher, the current Editor-in-Chief, and Greg Fisher, Associate Editor, will lead this workshop.

Purpose and Agenda

This idea development workshop (IDW) will be run alongside other professional development workshops at the ACERE Conference. The AMR IDW is geared toward early career researchers (e.g., Assistant Professors and Postdoctoral fellows) and PhD students who are interested in publishing in AMR. AMR is the highest-ranked journal publishing conceptual and theoretical manuscripts. Although this IDW is open to anyone, preference will be shown to individuals from institutions based in Australia and New Zealand. The hope is that this workshop will help participants develop well-crafted manuscripts suitable for submission to AMR.

The workshop will be divided into two parts. We will first participate in a joint presentation and discussion with editors from the Journal of Business Venturing (JBV) and Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice (ETP). Each editor will provide general information about publishing in their respective journal. The AMR editor will describe what makes a successful AMR paper, the main reasons that papers are rejected, and strategies for addressing the core challenges that Editors and reviewers see in rejected AMR submissions.

The second part of the workshop will focus on the development and elaboration of participant’s ideas for conceptual papers targeted at AMR. To participate in this portion of the workshop, participants will need to submit a two-page proposal describing an idea for a conceptual paper prior to the workshop (see deadline dates below). In this session, participants will work through exercises and activities that will allow them to expand and develop their proposed ideas. Participants will work toward having a full draft of a conceptual paper suitable for AMR and they will be invited to submit their draft paper to the workshop organizers for feedback back after the session.

Participation in the second part of the AMR workshop is limited to 25 individuals (JBV and ETP editors will host separate and different sessions in the second part of the workshop).

Participation is open to anyone. Those who wish to participate that are not attending the ACERE conference will be charged a small fee to cover catering costs. For those attending the ACERE conference, this workshop will be included in your conference registration fee.

Any questions about accommodations or logistics should be directed to Agnes Toth-Peter agnes.tothpeter@hdr.qut.edu.au.
