International Women’s Day is a time to reflect on progress made, to call for change and to celebrate acts of courage and determination by ordinary women, who have played an extraordinary role in the history of their countries and communities.

Globally, 8 March is celebrated as International Women’s Day, a day dedicated to honoring the achievements of women throughout history and all across the world, and a day for women from all backgrounds and cultures to band together to fight for gender parity and women's rights. The emerging global consensus is that despite progress, real change has been slow for the majority of women and girls in the world. Today, not a single country can claim to have achieved gender equality. Multiple obstacles remain unchanged. Women and girls continue to be undervalued; they work more, earn less and have fewer choices. The 2021 International Women’s Day theme is #ChooseToChallenge, which presents the opportunity for women to choose to challenge and call out gender bias and inequality.

March is Women's History Month, which highlights the contributions of women to events in American history and contemporary society. The theme for this year’s Women's History Month, “Valiant Women of the Vote: Refusing to Be Silenced”, captures the spirit of these challenging times.
