AOM Fellows

In addition to celebrating achievement in management, the Fellows Group provides opportunities for community and a forum for discussion among the people who have been recognized. For 2026, nine members were selected to be honored with induction.

Sharon Alvarez, AOM Fellow

Sharon Alvarez

Sharon A. Alvarez is the Olofson Chair in Entrepreneurial Studies and Professor of Business Administration at the University of Pittsburgh. She is recognized for groundbreaking contributions to research and theory on opportunity creation that transformed scholarly understanding of entrepreneurship. Her research demonstrated that human action under conditions of uncertainty creates opportunities, markets, and stakeholder relationships through iterative processes of action, interaction, and interpretation. This work has influenced scholarship in management fields including strategy, innovation, and international business.

Her contributions have been recognized with the Academy of Management Review Best Paper Award for advancing understanding of how language shapes firm emergence, and the Academy of Management Entrepreneurship Division Foundational Paper Award for the co-authored paper “Discovery and Creation: Alternative Theories of Entrepreneurial Action” (2007) which redirected scholarly attention from opportunities that exist independent of human action to the process through which opportunities are created through human action. Her more recent scholarship examines how human action and interaction produce generative processes that create opportunities, organizations, markets, and broader social systems.

Beyond her research, she has made a lasting impact on management scholarship through leadership and service to the profession. She served as President of the Academy of Management and held editorial leadership roles, including Associate Editor of the Academy of Management Review, the Strategic Entrepreneurship Journal, and the Journal of International Business Studies.

Neal Ashkanasy

Neal M. Ashkanasy is Emeritus Professor of Management in the UQ Business School at The University of Queensland, Australia (where he earned his PhD in 1989). He studies emotion in organizations, leadership, culture, ethical behaviour, and the physical environment of work.  He has published in journals such as the Academy of Management Journal, Review, and Learning and Education; the Journal of Management; and the Journal of Applied Psychology.  He served as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Organizational Behavior and Associate Editor for the Academy of Management Review and Academy of Management Learning & Education. He is currently Associate Editor for the Journal of Management Education, Management Teaching Review, Emotion Review, and Series Editor for Research on Emotion in Organizations. He is the founder and administrator of the Emonet Listserv. Ashkanasy is a fellow of the International Association for Applied Psychology, the Society of Industrial and Organizational Psychology, the Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia and the UK; the British Academy of Management; and is a Life Fellow of ANZAM. In 2017, he was awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM)’ and in 2019 he was named the US Academy of Management’s Managerial and Organizational Cognition Division Distinguished Scholar. He retired from full-time employment in 2023.

Pawan Budhwar

Pawan Budhwar is the 50th Anniversary Professor at Aston Business School and formerly Head of Aston Business School, and Associate Deputy Vice Chancellor International, Aston University. He is the co-founder and first President of the Indian Academy of Management, has served as the All Academy of Management Chair for Caucuses (2008 – 2009), as a co-editor-in-chief of the British Journal of Management (2014-2020) and as the Co-Vice Chair Research & Publications of the British Academy of Management. He is the Co-Editor-in-Chief of Human Resource Management Journal, and Area Editor of Journal of International Business Studies.

Pawan has published over 225 articles in leading journals and written and/or co- edited 33 books and is globally known for his research in the fields of strategic and international HRM, digitalization, sustainability and emerging markets. He is a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences (UK), the British Academy of Management (BAM), the Chartered Association of Business Schools (CABS), the Higher Education Academy (UK), and the Indian Academy of Management. He has received numerous awards for his contributions, including the International Federation of Scholarly Management Award in 2022 and BAM Medal for Research Leadership in 2021.

Pawan has served or sits on national and international advisory panels, has presented at the UK Parliament, and was part of the UK government’s Higher Education Mission to India in 2023 and West Midlands Mayoral Mission to India in February 2026. He chairs the CABS’s Scientific Committee for the Academic Journal Guide.

Daniel Cable

Dan Cable is Professor of Organizational Behavior at London Business School. Dan’s research and teaching focus on organizational culture, activating positive emotions, and getting employees into commitment instead of just compliance. His research has been cited over 40,000 times, he is on Stanford University’s list of the top 2% most impactful researchers, and The Academy of Management Perspectives ranked Dan in the “Top 25 most influential management scholars.” The Academy of Management has honored Dan with “Best article” three times. Dan’s book Exceptional helps people learn more about their best contribution and impact on others, so that they can unleash their potential. Alive at Work: The Neuroscience of Helping Your People Love What They Do helps leaders switch on the part of employees’ brains needed for innovation, learning, and resilience. He has edited two books and published more than 50 articles in top scientific journals (such as the Academy of Management Journal and Administrative Science Quarterly) and has been featured in the Economist, Financial Times, Harvard Business Review, Wall Street Journal, CNBC, New York Times, Sloan Management Review, and Business Week.

Joep Cornelissen, AOM Fellow

Joep Cornelissen

Joep Cornelissen is a Professor of Management at Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University and Chair in Strategy and Organization (part-time) at the University of Liverpool. His research focuses on communication and sense making in the context of organizations and institutions. He also has teaching and research interests in methodology and theory development in management and organization research.

Joep’s work has been published in leading management journals including the Academy of Management Review, Academy of Management Journal, Journal of Management Studies, Organization Science, and Organization Studies. His research has been recognized with several “best paper” awards, and he received (together with Markus Hoellerer) the Joanne Martin Trailblazer award from the Academy of Management for his contributions to theory development in the field.

Joep has been the founding Editor-in-Chief of Organization Theory and previously served as Associate Editor of the Academy of Management Review (2024-2017) and as General Editor of the Journal of Management Studies (2006–2012).

He is also the author of the widely used textbook Corporate Communication: A Guide to Theory and Practice (Sage Publications), which now in its eighth edition (2026) and used on master, MBA and executive programmes around the world.

Nicolai Foss, AOM Fellow

Nicolai Foss

Nicolai J. Foss is a Professor of Strategy at the Department of Strategy and Innovation, CBS and a Professor II at the Norwegian School of Economics.. He is a Knight of the Order of the Dannebrog, a member of Academia Europaea, and a Fellow of the Strategic Management Society. Nicolai has been a Clarivate Highly Cited Researcher since 2018.

Throughout his career, Nicolai has ought to contribute to conversations spanning strategy, entrepreneurship, innovation, organizational economics, and the micro foundations of management. In particular, he has been interested in understanding how firm-level phenomena emerge from the actions and interactions of individuals, and how a focus on micro foundations can enrich our understanding of governance, knowledge, entrepreneurship, and competitive advantage. In entrepreneurship research, Nicolai (with Peter G Klein) has pioneered the Judgment-Based Approach which examines how entrepreneurs and managers exercise judgment when the future is unknowable. His work on these issues has been published in the Academy of Management Review, Academy of Management Journal, Organization Science, Strategic Management Journal, Journal of Management, and several other leading journals. Many of Nicolai’s papers have been reprinted in research handbooks, and several of his articles and books are translated into Chinese, Russian, Polish, Hungarian, and Spanish. Among his many roles, Nicolai served as a department head at the Copenhagen Business School for a decade, and he has served as a panel member of the European Research Council and on the Board of Directors of the Strategic Management Society. He has been an avid participant in the activities of the Academy of Management and has been an organizer of several AOM PDWs, symposia etc. over the years.

Sarah Kaplan, AOM Fellow

Sarah Kaplan

Sarah Kaplan is Professor Emerita and Founding Director of the Institute for Gender and the Economy (GATE) at the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management. She is the author of three books, including the business bestseller Creative Destruction; The 360° Corporation, based on her award-winning Rotman course; and the forthcoming Products for the People (W.W. Norton), which shows how designing for people outside the default unlocks braver ideas, stronger demand, and lasting advantage.

She was a strategic lead on Canada’s 2020 Feminist Economic Recovery Plan and co-authored 360° Governance: Where Are the Directors in a World in Crisis (2021). She regularly advises corporations, governments, and agencies on innovation, board governance and diversity, care work, employment, pay equity, and gender-based analysis.

She has served as Senior Editor at Organization Science, Associate Editor at the Academy of Management Annals, and Special Issue editor at the Strategic Management Journal and the Journal of Management. She also served on the Executive Committee and Research Committee of the STR Division.

Her honors include the AOM Career Award for Scholar-Practitioner impact and the Simmons Award for Advancing Women in Leadership from the Gender and Diversity in Organizations Division.

Formerly a professor at the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School, where she remains a Senior Fellow, and an innovation specialist at McKinsey & Company, she holds a PhD from MIT’s Sloan School of Management.

David Krackhardt, AOM Fellow

David Krackhardt

David Krackhardt is Professor of Organizations at Carnegie Mellon University’s Heinz College of Information Systems and Public Policy, with a joint appointment at the Tepper School of Business. His research uses social networks to understand how organizations function. He is best known for showing that people carry mental maps that shape power, reputation, and turnover (cognitive social structures).

His other contributions include the normative power of Simmelian ties; how enduring bonds underpin trust at work (philos ties); how a group’s mix of internal and external ties shapes its ability to recover from crises (the E-I index); and the assessment of informal organization (the four graph-theoretic dimensions). He has also made methodological contributions to the statistical analysis of relational data (MRQAP and transitivity/balance correlations).

He has received several career awards, including the OMT Distinguished Scholar Award, the Social Network Society Distinguished Scholar Award, and the INSNA Simmel Award. He has held regular or visiting faculty appointments at Stanford, Cornell, the University of Chicago, INSEAD, and Harvard Business School. He received his undergraduate training at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and earned his PhD at the University of California, Irvine.

Scott Siebert, AOM Fellow

Scott Seibert

Scott Seibert is Professor of Organization and Human Resources, Faculty Director for the Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership, and incoming Chair of the Department of Organization and Human Resources at the University at Buffalo, School of Management. His research focuses on careers and career success, leadership and employee motivation, and entrepreneurial careers. Scott has published widely in leading management and applied psychology journals including Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Learning & Education, Journal of Management, Personnel Psychology, Journal of Applied Psychology, and Journal of Vocational Behavior. His research has been recognized with the AMJ Best Published Paper Award and the Outstanding Publication in Organizational Behavior award as well as seven Best Paper or Best Symposium awards from various AOM Divisions.

Scott has been actively involved in the Academy of Management, serving in the officer track of the Careers Division from 2015 – 2019 and is currently Associate Editor on the founding team for Journal of Management Scientific Reports. He received his PhD in Organizational Behavior from the School of Industrial and Labor Relations at Cornell University.
