Critical Management Studies

CMS is delighted to welcome Katherine Gibson as our keynote speaker. Katherine is internationally known for her research on rethinking economies as sites of ethical action which speaks powerfully to our community. All members from across the Academy are encouraged to join us.

 

Communication, Digital Technology and Organizations

The CTO division welcomes as the CTO 2022 Distinguished Scholar. Samer is an outstanding scholar, having carried out transdisciplinary and impactful research contributing to fields including information systems, management, and communications. The keynote address will be followed by Q&A.

 

 

Gender Diversity and Organizations

The GDO plenary speaker will be Sharon Parker, John Curtin Distinguished Professor, Curtin Research Institute: Future of Work Institute, Curtin University, Australia. She will share her work on perspective taking, and will specifically focus on how people may still reach across demographic divides to “walk a mile in another’s shoes” in the new virtual world.

 

Health Care Management

The HCM Division welcomes Gary S. Kaplan as the keynote speaker, delivering a talk titled Reflections on “22 years at the helm of Virginia Mason”. Gary is currently Senior Advisor and Senior Vice President for CommonSpirit Health, and previously served as chairman and CEO of the Virginia Mason Health System from 2000-2020 and Co-CEO of Virginia Mason Franciscan Health in 2021.

 

 

Management Education and Development

The MED Plenary features a keynote address from William Starbuck titled “Teaching Tactics that have Worked for Me.” William is a courtesy professor at the Lundquist College of Business of the University of Oregon and professor emeritus at New York University.

 

Management Spirituality and Religion

This MSR spotlight symposium features panelists Otto Scharmer, Sandra Waddock, Lemuel Watson, Jochen Matthias Reb, Patricia Wilson, and Kathryn Goldman-Schuyler. As is fitting for the 2022 theme, the presenters will explore how mindfulness/meditation contributes to creating a world that supports the flourishing of humans and all sentient beings—which is how we perceive the meaning of a “better” world.

 

 

Operations and Supply Chain Management

Don’t miss our OSCM Plenary Session where the panel will feature an Academic-Practitioner partnership discussing “Engaged OSCM Scholarship to Create a Better World Together.”

 

Organization Development and Change

Denny Gioia of the Smeal College of Business at Penn State is the ODC Division Distinguished Scholar. His scholarship in sensemaking and sensegiving processes during strategic change efforts, knowledge transformation processes, and the role of organizational identity and imagine in attempting change has been published in top journals. As the founding editor of the Provocations & Provocateurs section in the Journal of Management Inquiry, Denny has promised a “no-holds-barred” talk.

 

 

Strategizing Activities and Practices

The SAP Interest Group welcomes Distinguished Keynote Speaker Martha Feldman, whose work on routine dynamics and practice theory more broadly has influenced the work of many SAP scholars. Martha’s keynote address is titled “Coping with Disruption: Precarity, Patterning and Social Justice.”
