Marieke Huysentruyt and Leandro Nardi, recipients of the 2022 Carolyn B. Dexter Award

"It gives us hope that topics related to grand societal challenges will more and more become mainstream topics in management. More specifically our project shows that bringing the lenses of strategy can help to improve our understanding of the role that businesses can play in addressing important societal challenges. It also shows that despite difficulties finding, capturing, and understanding information about refugees, it is possible, and especially in this time we shouldn't give up."

Marieke Huysentruyt and Leandro Nardi are the winners of the 2022 Carolyn B. Dexter Award for their paper, " ", submitted to the Strategic Management (STR) Division for its strong contributions to theory and novel methodology.

The paper explores whether exposure to social challenges influences an organization's corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities and focuses on refugee incidents and forced migration to Europe.

Leandro is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at HEC Paris, based in the Society & Organizations Institute (and an incoming assistant professor at HEC Paris). He researches the intersection of strategic management and social impact, including topics such as CSR, the interplay of financial and nonfinancial dimensions of performance, ESG, and impact-oriented business and investments.

Marieke is an Associate Professor in Strategy and Business Policy and Academic Director of the Inclusive Economy Center at HEC Paris. She is passionate about teaching and carrying out research on social inequalities, with applications in the fields of strategy, behavioral economics, development, and business policy.

"We see the award as a 'vote of confidence' or 'green light' for all of us researchers who go the extra mile to develop robust and original research methods to study important social topics. With the on-going Ukrainian refugee crisis, the paper has of course gained in relevance. The burden is on us to try to ensure that research projects like ours also gain in impact."

2023 Responsible Research Award sponsored by AOM Fellows

Attention all AOM scholars! The , an affiliate of AOM, enthusiastically supports the 2023 Responsible Research in Management Award (RRMA) and invites nominations (or self-nominations) by 31 January 2023. Since its founding in 2018, this award has assembled a canon of responsible research—13 books and 70 articles that are academically credible, societally useful, and have helped to make the world a better place.

Although there are incessant calls for research that is relevant to practice, RRMA is the only award for socially valuable research whose selection signals affirmation by practicing executives that the study's findings are actionable. Since 2021, winners of RRMA have been chosen by members of the Academy of Management Fellows Group to recognize and catalyze published research that yields credible results, guides practice, and benefits society.
