Purpose and Agenda

AMLE is rated as 4* in the UK CABS list and A* in the Australian Business Deans’ Council list of journals. The journal’s main emphasis is on theoretical debates about management learning and education in all types of settings – schools and universities as well as businesses and public and non-profit organizations. Additionally, AMLE publishes work that addresses critical theoretical debates about “the business of business schools,” including the careers of management educators.

This workshop has two main parts. Part 1 comprises a general introduction to AMLE and what makes us distinctive. The main focus is on writing manuscripts that advance our theoretical understanding about MLE phenomena for the research and review, and essay sections of the journal. This first part of the workshop is open to all interested participants. Part 2 is focused on providing tailored feedback for potential authors on their work-in-progress to develop and refine their manuscripts for submission to AMLE. Participants wishing to receive feedback on their manuscripts should note the requirements below.

Part 1 Workshop Schedule (no preparation required)
8:30 – 9:00 - Arrival and coffee
9:00 – 10:00 - AMLE overview and Q&A
10:00 – 10:30 - Coffee
10:30 – 12:00 - Theorizing for MLE
12:00 – 13:00 - Lunch

Part 2 Workshop Schedule (preparation required)
13:00 – 14:30 - Small group discussion of submissions, with individual advice from the facilitators
14:30 – 15:00 - Coffee
15:00 – 16:30 - Small group discussion of submissions, with individual advice from the facilitators
16:30 – 17:00 = Participant reflections on PDW and closing

Part 2 Requirements

  • Have either an extended abstract (~ 3,000 words) or a full paper that fits with AMLE’s focus and content areas that you would like to develop through constructive critique. Previous FTEs can serve as guideposts to clarify AMLE’s focus and content areas (Foster, 2018; Hibbert et al., 2021; Lindebaum, 2023; Hibbert, in Rockmann et al., 2021).
  • Send the submission in Word or PDF format, no later than 30 April 2024, to Diego M. Coraiola (dcoraiola@uvic.ca). Your submission must have a cover page that includes: the author name(s) and affiliation(s); three-four keywords; and an email address for the lead author. An abstract of up to 200 words should be provided on the first page of the paper. If you are sending an extended abstract, include a very brief plan for developing the full paper at the end of your text.
  • Agree to have your paper discussed in a small group with other participants, as arranged by the workshop facilitators, and be willing and able to provide a short (5-minute) overview of your paper to others in the discussion group.
  • Commit to attending the whole workshop if your submission is accepted.

If you do not have a paper you want to receive feedback on but want to discuss a research idea with us, please send an email to Diego M. Coraiola (dcoraiola@uvic.ca) no later than 15 May to check if we can fit you within our schedule. Preference for the second part of the workshop will be given to authors submitting papers and extended abstracts, but we may be able to make some room to discuss earlier stage projects.

Registration Information

There is no registration fee, but participants are responsible to arrange their own travel and accommodation. Registration, submission of an extended abstract, and commitment to attend is required for all participants wishing to attend both parts of the PDW.
